读书偶得之“见光死”

刚锱铢积累、附庸风雅、一知半解地通读完钱钟书《谈艺录》。该书“594页补正”(中华书局84年版p645)引了女诗人Emily Dickinson的一首诗,查手边Dickinson诗集,果然找到(Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson,Gramercy Books,1982,BookⅡ Love,XV,p83)。其诗云:

A Charm invests a face
Imperpectly beheld,——
The lady dare not lift her veil
For fear it be dispelled.

But peers beyond her mesh,
And wishes,and denies,——
Lest interview annul a want
That image satisfies.

窃谓,最后两句不正是现时俗语经常说的“见光死”吗?!
